Cacti Care Info

Cacti love the sun. If they are going to be housed inside give them as much light as possible. A

south facing window or a special plant/grow light is preferred. If cacti do not get enough light

they will become etiolated. Etiolation is a process that occurs when plants grow in a lack of

light, resulting in long, weak stems, pale leaves, and unhealthy growth.

Cacti do not need a lot of water. Water the plant about every 2 to 3 weeks; about every 2

weeks in the summer and about every 3 weeks or longer in the winter. If the soil is dry to the touch then

you can water it, if not give it some more time.

The Prickly Pear pads can be planted in the ground after the last frost of the year and can

remain outdoors generally unaffected. Again, they enjoy as much sun as possible, so pick a

spot that gets at least 5 hours of direct sun a day. If outside and temperatures drop below

freezing, covering with a sheet or other material will help them stay warm. For the smaller

cacti, it is suggested that they are only outside when the temperatures are above 60F and it is

not raining.
